In the mid-seventeenth century during the Ming dynasty the Chinese tea-makes started to experiment with oolongs – this new type of tea and that is the time when many different artisan oolong teas and its legends became known.

The milk wulong is probably the most unique and the praised one. This kind of unique, rare artisan oolong teas are handpicked, hand-rolled and steamed, as in the old days.

The tea bushes go dormant in the winter and return to life in the spring. The season for milk oolong in Fujian is the same as for other Chinese Tea.
First, the leaf is plucked from gardens situated between 1500 – 4900 feet above sea level, and its production starts in March. Next, the plucked leaf is withered until it has reached the desired level of fermentation. The fermented tea is rocked, or sifted to sort because only the prime leaves are required, and steamed over hot fire. Finally the tea is dried then sorted to ensure leaf quality and packed. 

The milk oolong tea is produced in relatively small quantities from March to December.

Only about  80,000 kg are produced with about 60,000 kg headed for the export market.

IDEAL BREWING TEMPERATURE for MIlk Oolong tea is 85ºC/185ºF – bring water to 100ºC/212ºF and let it cool down to 85ºC/185ºF.
